                          Reset Word to default settings

 Most problems with Word can be fixed by resetting it:
  1. Close Microsoft Word.
  2. Click the Start button (Windows XP users should then click Run).
  3. Type regedit and press Enter.
  4. Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Office -> 14 -> Word.
    (The number 14 could be different depending on your version of Office)
  5. Double click on the Word folder.
  6. Right click on the Data folder and click Delete.
  7. Close the Registry Editor.
  8. Try using Microsoft Word again.


              Set Microsoft Word 2010 back to default settings
  1. Open a new document, click on the Home tab, click on the Font dialog box button as shown in the screenshot below, and select the Font tab.
  2. Choose the font settings that you would like to make the default and click Set As Default.
  3. Select All documents based on the Normal.dotm template?

Please follow these steps:
  1. Close Word application;
  2. Delete Normal.DOTM and BuildingBlocks.DOTX: these files are rebuilt automatically next time Word is started. ...
  3. Use regedit to delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Data key: it will be rebuilt automatically next time Word is started.

The default margins for Microsoft Word from version 2007 onward have been 1 inch(2.54 cm) all around; in Word 2003, the default top and bottom margins were 1 inch(2.54 cm), but 1.25 inches (3.17 cm) were given at the left and the right.
